The History

      Guatemalan History :  Spanish-Castilian is the prominent language spoken in the rural areas of the country.  However, the Mayan languages, which 21 are known today, still dominate in some of the areas of the land.  The Mayan customs also remain in many areas, such as religion and in community maintenance.
     The land of the eternal spring is the motto that people give Guatemala, this is due to its spring like  climate all year round.  The skies are so blue that people often comment on how it's so unique.

     History has brought about 36 years of civil war which made for tough upbringing of many Guatemalan's during those generations.  A people that have survived many governments of oppression and of distasteful attempts of genocide.  Civil war, unfortunately has been an icon of the country that has endorsed many of many rebellions and deaths that cover the Guatemalan strive for equal justice.  It has been not until recent, that Guatemala has started to flourish as a country as one.

 

     It has fought its liberty back from the days of the Spanish conquest to not that long ago from this date. Guatemala has now started to exploit their natural resources and has opened its doors to all the beautiful places it holds as a gift for all to enjoy.  History of the good kind is now starting to be written on a new progressed page.

     Of course, there is a lot more to Guatemalan history than these few paragraphs but it would be so extensive since there is so many.  I leave the history to be in taste and in understanding through pictures to set you in the Chapín mood.
